What is an Origami Zodiac Animals greeting card?
This new collection of origami card is based on the 12 animals of Chinese or Japanese Zodiac system, where each animal represents one of the years in the 12 year repeating cycle. Eleven of the animals are real, but one is mystical: the majestic Dragon!
We wanted to create a collection that was cute and fun to experience for all ages and after a bit (actually quite a lot) of experimentation we decided on animal faces. But before we could start designing cards we had to design and create the origami paper first, which as it turned out was more challenging than designing the cards! Many iterations later we believe we have succeeded in creating 12 cute animal faces printed on 60gsm paper for easier folding.
As usual with our origami cards, there are folding instructions included with each card and a link to a supporting video explaining how to fold the animal (nicely performed by Mei-Yee). Printed on matt textured heavy weight board (350gsm), we think these 150mm square cards are great for birthdays – especially if you know the zodiac animal year – and, of course, for celebrating a new year. For example this year is the year of the Rooster and next year, 2018, is the year of Dog, which, incidentally, is Henry’s animal, (yay!), and Mei-Yee is a bunny rabbit – cute!
